Anxiety: How To Turn Your Brain Off

Besides the spontaneous panic attacks, “racing thoughts” would have to be one of the most frustrating aspects of anxiety. You’ll just be laying in bed trying to relax and then all of a sudden your mind fills with all sorts of thoughts and worries. Though this can be very stressful to deal with, it doesn’t have to be. Let me help you out! 😊

Here are 3 Ways To Control Your Thoughts At Night:

Be In Control

This one is a no brainer. Instead of letting your thoughts consume you, take control of them so you can get a good nights rest. As soon as your feel yourself worrying, here’s what you do:

  • Close your eye’s and imagine yourself at the beach or somewhere serene (I know this sounds cheesy, but trust me it works!)
  • As soon as you see the vision in your head, try to relax…close your eyes…and count to 20.
  • Once your reach 20, you should hopefully feel yourself drifting to sleep and worry free.

Be One With Nature

Let Mother Nature help take your worries away. If you don’t have a sound machine, that’s ok! To improvise, what you can do is go on youtube and look up nature sounds ( I recommend either rain or thunderstorms). Once you find a video that you like…close your eyes… relax… and let “Mama” work her magic on your mind through the relaxing sounds of nature.

Take the Herbal Route

Yessss! If the suggestions listed above don’t work then I either recommend a good herbal tea or even melatonin. The best tea to help ease the mind would be Chamomile tea. This tea helps induce sleep and allows the mind to relax so drink up!

Now if your feel yourself literally being flooded with thoughts to the point that it is uncomfortable, you may need to take melatonin. Melatonin will be your best friend in extreme cases like this and will quickly aid with sleep and relaxation. If you have trouble sleeping at night due to your anxiety, hopefully this helps. Though anxiety can be quite a frustrating and difficult to deal with, you cannot allow it to consume you and take over your life.

  2. Yes counting and breathing! My brain goes from ok to very panicky very quickly, so I need a reminder. Any tips on that? I could read your post over and over again πŸ™‚ but would a note to myself work or something else? When my brain is racing, I forget all the other options it seems.

    1. The only tip that I could give for that would be try to stay positive. Even though I know it’s easier said than done, the best way to prevent panicky thoughts would be to stay positive and keep yourself busy to distract yourself from your thoughts
